A Fresh Start, Same Great Cameras
We've completely rebuilt Traffic Cameras UK from the ground up. Here's what you need to know.
Why a new version?
Traffic Cameras UK has been running for over a decade, and in that time the site has grown far beyond what the original code was ever built to handle. Nearly a million page views a month, thousands of regular users, and an aging codebase that was increasingly difficult to maintain and keep online.
Rather than keep patching, we decided to start fresh with modern technology. The result is a site that's significantly faster, more reliable, and built on a foundation that can grow with you. Same cameras, same roads, same coverage, just a much better experience all round.
What hasn't changed
- All your favourite URLs still work. /m1, /m25, /a55, /map, everything is exactly where you left it.
- Browsing roads and cameras is still completely free. No account needed, no limits. Same as it's always been.
- Same cameras, same roads, plus greatly expanded coverage. All the England and Wales cameras you know, plus Scotland, Northern Ireland, and 884 TfL JamCams across London. That's over 4,700 cameras across 150+ roads.
Your account
If you had an account on the old site, your login details will work here. Just sign in with the same email and password you used before.
If you're new, you can create a free account in seconds. It only takes an email address and a password.
A note about the map
One small change: the interactive map now requires a free account. Here's why.
The map has become one of the most popular features on the site, and with that popularity came significantly higher costs for the live traffic data and mapping services it depends on. Asking users to log in helps us manage those costs while keeping the map free to use.
It's still completely free, you just need to create an account first. No subscription required, no payment details needed.
What's new
A faster, more reliable experience
Camera images load faster, pages respond more quickly, and the site handles busy periods without slowing down. Behind the scenes, images refresh intelligently, only updating when you're actually looking at the page.
Dark mode and extra themes
Dark mode is perfect for checking cameras at night without blinding yourself. Light, Dark and High-Contrast themes are available to everyone, via their profile page.
Custom Views
Save your most-used cameras into custom views for one-tap access. Mix cameras from different roads, which is handy if your commute crosses several. Give cameras nicknames like "Junction near work" so you know exactly which one you're looking at.
Available with a Supporter subscription (from £3.50/month).
Smart Routes
Enter a start and end point, and we'll find every traffic camera along the way, in the order you'll pass them. Save your regular journeys and check them before you leave. Saved routes also show live incidents and roadworks along your path, with a conditions summary at the top.
Available with a Commuter subscription (from £4.99/month).
London TfL JamCams
884 Transport for London cameras are now live across all 33 London boroughs, browsable by borough on the roads page and fully integrated into the map and Smart Routes.
Live traffic incidents
The map now shows live incidents, roadworks, and planned works across England, Wales, Northern Ireland, and London, updated every few minutes. Toggle each category on or off to see exactly what you need. Smart Route pages also show any incidents along your route, with a conditions summary at the top.
Available to all registered users on the map. Incidents along saved routes available with a Commuter subscription.
Saved Locations
Add your home, workplace, or anywhere else you care about, and your homepage will show the nearest cameras and a live conditions summary for each location whenever you log in.
Available with a Supporter subscription (from £3.50/month).
Ad-free option
The site remains free to use, supported by unobtrusive adverts. If you'd prefer a cleaner experience, any paid subscription removes ads entirely.
Supporting the project
Traffic Cameras UK has always been a labour of love, run independently without corporate backing. The new subscription options help cover the costs of hosting, data feeds, and ongoing development while giving you useful features in return.
There's absolutely no obligation to subscribe. Everything that was free before is still free now. But if you find the site useful and want to support it (and get some nice extras along the way), we'd genuinely appreciate it.
